Algarve Holidays

The Algarve located in Southern Portugal is a very popular holiday destination. With its numerous fantastic beaches the Algarve attracts couples, families and golfers alike. The Algarve has lots of sleepy villages where visitors can sample the laid back lifestyle and busy seaside resorts offering plenty of bars and restaurants. Most of the resorts in the Algarve were once small fishing villages but are now filled with 3 and 4 star hotels, offering self catering and all inclusive packages. Whether it’s a family holiday in Vilamoura or a budget holiday in Albufeira, holidays in the Algarve cater for everyone.

Currency in Algarve

Portugal is a member of the European Union and its official currency is the Euro (EUR), which is divided into 100 cents. There are numerous banks, bureaux de change and ATMs available in main cities and tourist destinations. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, bureaux de change and automatic currency exchange machines. Banking hours are generally 8.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday. Major credit cards are widely accepted, as are travellers cheques.

Holidays in the Algarve

Golfing holidays in the Algarve are incredibly popular with resorts like Vilamoura offering excellent golf courses and sporting facilities. Albufeira holidays are ideal for those who are looking for plenty of nightlife and holidays in Praia da Oura offer some of the best beaches in the Algarve, great for a relaxing break. Scuba diving in the Algarve is also a popular past time with its numerous wrecks, reefs and caves. There is a Zoomarine, go karting, dolphin watching and many waterparks making a family holiday in Portugal a great choice.

Language

Portuguese is the official language, but English is widely spoken and understood.

Nightlife in the Algarve

Holidays in Albufeira are great for a lively holiday. In the old town there are traditional bars and cafes, whilst the vibrant strip on the seafront has a wide variety of bars, restaurants and clubs open until the early hours. Other resorts in the Algarve such as Vilamoura and Praia da Oura offer a more laid back atmosphere, with international restaurants and live music bars.
