Mexican currency is the New Peso (MXN) divided into 100 centavos. Credit cards are widely accepted, particularly Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Travellers cheques are generally accepted, but cannot be cashed on Sundays. ATMs are available in most cities and towns and are the most convenient way to get money, but for safety reasons they should only be used during business hours. Although most businesses will accept foreign currency it is best to use pesos. Foreign currency can be exchanged at one of many casas de cambio (exchange houses), which have longer hours and offer a quicker service than the banks.

Package holidays in Mexico mostly centre around the all inclusive hotels in Cancun. On the beaches there’s lots of watersports on offer from waterskiing to snorkeling and scuba diving. The hotel zone in Cancun has excellent shopping facilities from ultra-modern malls,chic boutiques and department stores. Cancun City itself in contrast to the island has bustling market street stalls full of Mexican handcrafts. Whilst on holiday in Cancun excursions to the Ancient Mayan sites are highly recommended. The famous Chichen Itza and the ruins of Mayan city of Calakmot are amongst the most popular.
Language
Spanish is the official language. Some English is spoken in tourist regions.
Nightlife in Cancun
Holidays in Cancun have a reputation for non stop partying. There’s lots of entertainment on offer with a range of bars, discos and nightclubs to suit everyone, from romantic to rock and salsa. At night the hotel zone in Cancun comes alive with clubs open until the very early hours. The choice of restaurants in Cancun is endless, from Yucatan specialities to fast food. Most of the hotels in Cancun also offer there own in house entertainment, with live music and theme nights ideal for family holidays.
