One of the most visited cities in Europe, a city break to Cologne is an excellent choice for a short break in Germany. Renowned for its historical architecture, beauty and modern art it is home to one of worlds largest Gothic structures which sits next to the Rhine and took over 600 years to complete.

Following World War 2 large parts of the city were rebuilt and during your city break in Cologne you´ll see the care and attention that went in to making the city what it is today with large green areas and spacious marketplaces.

A city break to Cologne during the run up to Christmas will give you opportunity to visit one or more of the eight Christmas Markets the city has to offer. Among them are four big Christmas Markets, located at the Cologne Cathedral, the Alter Markt, Neumarkt and on the Rudolfplatz. Every year these four Christmas Markets in Cologne attract almost 2 million visitors.

Getting around whilst on your city break to Cologne, using the cities public transport couldn´t be easier. Next to the cathedral you´ll find the Hauptbahnhof which is one of Germany´s busiest rail hubs and has excellent links to other European destinations. From here you will find streetcars, trams, buses and taxis waiting to take you wherever your heart desires.

The airport is around 14kms out of the city, S-Bahn trains run from the airport railway station, which is situated between Terminals 1 and 2, to Cologne Hauptbahnhof and other destinations in the city (journey time approximately 15 minutes). Airport shuttle buses are available to/from Cologne (journey time: 20 minutes). Alternatively, taxis to the centre of Cologne are readily available outside Terminals 1 and 2 (journey time: 15 minutes).
