Luxor Holidays

Luxor is located on the East Bank of the river Nile and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Egypt. It is a charming place of remarkable history and with its numerous prehistoric temples and monuments, it is regarded as one of the greatest open air museums in the world. Currency in Luxor

The unit of currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), which is divided into 100 piastres. Most credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants. Visitors are advised to take travellers cheques in US Dollars or Pounds to avoid additional exchange rate charges. Banks are usually closed on Friday and Saturday, but private exchange bureaux, called 'Forex', are open daily and banks in major hotels are open 24 hours. Cairo branches of the Egyptian British Bank and Banque Misr now have ATMs available that accept Visa, MasterCard and Cirrus and are quite common in the main tourist areas.

Holidays in Luxor

There are lots to keep visitors entertained whilst on holiday in Luxor. The Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, the ancient Egyptian Civilization Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Colossi of Memnon, Temple of Luxor, and the Temple of Karnak are amongst a few of the magnificent and popular tourist attractions in Luxor. A Nile Cruise is one of the most common ways of sight-seeing in Luxor and great for a relaxing holiday on the River Nile.

Language

Arabic is the official language although English and French are widely spoken, especially in the tourist areas.

Nightlife in Luxor

Though there are a few bars, nightlife is centered around the hotels, which offer an array of evening entertainment with traditional music and belly dancers. For a taste of the local nightlife, an evening saunter around Luxor Bazaar presents the opportunity to sample local drinks and pick up some reasonably priced souvenirs.
