Rome city breaks do offer excellent public transport although the metro is limited to mainly the city outskirts and trams limited attractions including the Vatican, Colloseum and Trastevere, buses offer access to all areas of Rome.
Single tickets are valid on all forms of public transport for 75 minutes and tickets should be purchased in advance. If you're planning on doing lots of travelling in Rome purchase a day tourist ticket for around 4 euros which is valid for 24 hours.
