St Lucia Holidays

St. Lucia Island is located in the Caribbean and is a fine natural harbor in the Castries. St. Lucia is an ideal family holiday resort which provides rest and recreation for the adults and plenty of outdoor thrills for the kids. Saint Lucia is an agricultural island, dedicated to producing tropical commodity crops. The mountainous rainforests of St.Lucia house more than 30 species of birds and is visited by birdwatchers. Currency in St Lucia

The unit of currency in Saint Lucia is the East Caribbean Dollar (XCD), which is tied to the US Dollar. The EC$ is divided into 100 cents. US dollars are also accepted at most tourist establishments and guarantee a better exchange rate. ATMs are accessible in Castries, Rodney Bay, Soufriere and Vieux Fort. Banks are open Monday to Friday. Major credit cards are acknowledged at all major hotels, shops and restaurants. Most hotels exchange foreign currency, and there are change bureaus in Castries.

Attractions in St Lucia

Other than the lovely natural scenes there are many sites to be visited in St.Lucia. The Pigeon Island National Park, the islands first national park, displays crafts and wares of yesteryears. Rodney Bay is an artificial lagoon and the chief center of nightlife, restaurants and thrilling water sports. Soufriere is a fishing village formed of lava and rock was once volcanic but now covered with lush green vegetation, must be visited. Other sites of interest include Nature reserves, Maria islands, and Marigot bay.

Language

St Lucian Creole is widely spoken, though English is the official language.

Nightlife

Nightlife is low-key in St.Lucia besides the hotel based entertainment. During winters, a few hotels feature steel band or calypso music every night of the week. St. Lucia is known for the variety of its music. Most hotels and some restaurants offer entertainment, including Shak-Shak bands, Steel Pan bands, limbo dancers and local dancers and singers. On Friday nights, the village of Gros Islet hosts a weekly "jump-up," a local street party for St. Lucians as well as visitors, lasting until the early morning hours. There is music in the streets and vendors selling barbecued chicken and other local foods and beverages. Jazz Club and Restaurant in Rodney Bay, is St.Lucia’s only jazz and blues bar. Live music and karaoke is often offered at The Wharf, on the Choc bay.
