Lambi centres on the coast in the north-eastern corner of the island of Kos. The sand-and-shingle beach begins at Kos Town’s harbour wall and unravels north, edged by traditional tavernas and British-style pubs. If you prefer things a bit quieter, head for the far end of the beach – the crowds thin out and the grains are accessorised with olive trees and wildflowers.
Hire a bike and you can pedal to the seaside village of Tingaki in around 20 minutes. It’s a peaceful spot, fringed by 6 kilometres of soft, white sand. The ancient ruins of Asklepion are within cycling distance, too, and feature the remains of centuries-old temples and the hospital that Hippocrates used to work in.
Kos Town Lambi‘s next-door neighbour, is ripe for exploring. It’s laced with Roman, Ottoman and Medieval ruins, and crowned with a 15th-century castle. Turkey is also an option – hydrofoils whisk you across the Aegean in 20 minutes and land you in Bodrum, a waterfront town with a chic harbour and a labyrinthine old quarter.
