Runaway Bay

Sandwiched between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, Runaway Bay is located right in the middle of Jamaica’s north coast. This little bay boasts a string of sugar-white beaches and beautiful blue seas. Widely regarded as one of the island’s most naturally beautiful areas, you won’t want to leave this laid-back slice of the Caribbean.

Home to straight out of the magazine beaches, most of the luxury all inclusive hotels boast their own private beach area, but there are also some less-trodden public beaches, like Cardiff Hall and Fisherman’s Beach. Whichever one you pick, the waters are calm, see-through and shallow, providing some the greatest snorkeling and offshore diving options in Jamaica.

Much of the beauty of Runaway Bay lies in the fact that while the town itself is not a vibrant bustling centre, it is conveniently located within easy reach of Ocho Rios in the east and Montego Bay in the west.

Besides having some of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean, Runaway Bay is endowed with captivating natural features such as the Pear Tree River and the famous Green Grotto Caves. From Runaway Bay you can also visit one of the island’s most famous attractions in the hillside village of Nine Mile. There you’ll find a monument dedicated to the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. He was born here, and it’s also his final resting place. Inside, there are artefacts, like guitars, awards, photos, and a ‘rock pillow’ which the singer-songwriter used to lay his head on when he needed inspiration.
